Dr. Bonine, along with Dr. Sam Daniels, has been awarded the Community Dedication award from the Brighton Chamber of Commerce for founding the VINA Community Dental Center.

Pictured are some of the local doctors who participated in the 2011 Gold for Food Program, a program started by Dr. Bonine in 1995 that utilizes donated old gold crowns and other fixtures from patients and turns them into meals for the poor. From left to right, Dr. Bonine, Dr. Rondeau, Dr. Matuszak, Dr. Metz, Dr. Giammalva and Dr. Andrusyszyn pose with Michelle Ounanian of the Livingston County Gleaners Food Bank. This year’s total donation of $17,188.45 is being matched by the Prentice Restaurant group and Walmart, and will generate a grand total of $34K to be donated to Gleaners Food Bank for 2011. Through the efforts of Dr. Bonine and other local dentists, the program has to date generated $109,555, which amounts to 328,665 meals!
2011 participating dentists’ offices include Dr. Matuszak, Drs. Fuhst-Wylie & Kahn, Dr. Metz, Drs. Petersburg & Giammalva, Dr. Rondeau, Dr. Todd Charlick, C.S.W. Dental, and Dr. Bonine.

Dr. Bonine is now an Honorary Member of the Chalmers J. Lyons Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery academy, the oldest oral surgery organization in North America, and has been elected to its executive board.

Oaken Transformations Sculpture & Poetry Walk announces its first anniversary open house, Saturday July 30th, from 3-6pm, 6893 Grand River Road in Brighton. The event is free to the public.
Poets reading include Robert Fanning (author of The Seed Theives, 2006; American Prophet, 2009), Russell Brakefield, Ben Fidler, John Ganiard, and Audra Puchalski.
The event will also feature live music from Michigan artists winter/sessions.

Dr. Bonine has once again been asked to participate in the Grand Rounds lectures at the University of Michigan, and will be lecturing to freshman dental students in an introductory course on wisdom teeth and reviewing scientific literature.

Dr. Bonine hosts Dr. Lawrence of Toledo, Ohio and his oral surgery staff for a Continuing Education course on Implantology and Piezo Surgery.

Our annual planting day at Dr. Bonine's Office was a great success again this year. On May 18th 2011, Dr. Bonine and his staff planted 100 flats of impatiens, marigolds, coleus and wave petunias. After a day of getting dirty and having some good laughs, we got to sit back, relax, have a picnic and enjoy each others company. The flowers are a gift to our patients and to beautify Grand River.

In a recent quality assurance study, we reviewed cases and found that our office has an 80% success rate of extracting a tooth and placing an implant at the same time! This cuts the amount of surgeries needed to complete the implant process in half, amounts to over $300 dollars in savings to the patient, and drastically reduces recovery time. The other twenty percent of cases used traditional socket preservation techniques to complete the implant process.

Dr. Bonine continues to lecture on Oral Surgery at the University of Michigan Dental School. His current lecture schedule topics include Wisdom Teeth, Exodontia, & Advances in Exodontia.
