Meet Dr. Bonine

  • Educational Background

    Dr. Bonine has been practicing in Brighton, Michigan as an Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon since 1984. He did his residency in Oral & Maxillofacial surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, where he simultaneously received a Masters in Science from Rackam School of Graduate Studies.

    Prior to this he had been a clinical instructor with the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Michigan, carried out research at the Dental Research Institute also at Michigan, and had a brief private practice in general dentistry in Brighton, Michigan. His doctorate is from the University of Michigan, and he received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University.

  • Dental Organization Involvement

    Dr. Bonine is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as a member of a number of professional societies including the American and Michigan societies of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Chalmers J. Lyons Honorary Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Detroit Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Michigan and American Dental Associations, Livingston County Dental Association, and the Michigan Forensic Dental Identification Team.

    He is a member of the medical staff at Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital. He has been active at St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital, holding a number of positions including former Chief of Surgery.

    He has published recently on Fibrinolytic Osteitis, and gives numerous continuing education presentations to local dental groups, physician groups, and community associations. He is co-founder and serves on the executive board of the VINA Community Dental Center, and he received the MDA Public Service Award in 2009 for starting the clinic. Bonine is a Member of the Chalmers J. Lyons Honorary Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Academy, the oldest oral surgery organization in North America, and also serves on its executive board.

  • Dr. Bonine's Personal Life

    Dr. Bonine was originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, but now resides in Howell, Michigan with his wife and younger children. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brighton, Michigan. He enjoys biking, woodworking, ballet–skiing, fencing, gardening, photography, and cooking in his spare time.
