  • What is Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery?

An oral and maxillofacial surgeon diagnoses and treats a wide range of problems related to the face, mouth, teeth and jaws. The specialty encompasses a background in dentistry and medicine and requires an additional 4-7 years of hospital-based training after dental school. Dr. Bonine has traditionally provided full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery, with a more recent emphasis on wisdom teeth and implants, to all ages of people. Other common problems treated include extractions of diseased teeth, facial pain, facial injuries and fractures, trauma, rebuilding of bone, surgery to aid orthodontic treatment, tumors, surgery to reconstruct the jaws, and many other procedures.

  • Where are the procedures performed?

The majority of procedures are performed on-site. Our Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired facility is tucked in a wooded glen, 2 miles off of I-96, midway between Brighton and Howell, and is conveniently located on Grand River. It is readily accessible from Ann Arbor, Jackson, Lansing, Fenton, and the suburbs of Detroit. A map can be generated at our website here. Our office is handicap and disability accessible, and was the first Accredited Ambulatory Health Care oral surgery office in Michigan.

  • What are the anesthesia options?

Your comfort during your experience with us is of the highest importance. Our practice has a longstanding history of anesthetic safety. Anesthesia options are provided to make the procedures more tolerable and relaxing for you. These options include local anesthesia, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), intravenous sedation, and general anesthesia. A consultation at a time before your surgery will allow Dr. Bonine to explain your surgery, and advise you on the best possible anesthetic options.
